Thoughtful Thursday

12 February 2015

A friend of mine shared the most awesome quote the other day and I keep coming back to it.  It is from a book called The Parent's Tao Te Ching: Ancient Advice for Modern Parents and it goes like this:

“Do not ask your children
to strive for extraordinary lives.
Such striving may seem admirable,
but it is the way of foolishness.
Help them instead to find the wonder
and the marvel of an ordinary life.
Show them the joy of tasting
tomatoes, apples and pears.
Show them how to cry
when pets and people die.
Show them the infinite pleasure
in the touch of a hand.
And make the ordinary come alive for them.
The extraordinary will take care of itself.”

Beautiful isn't it?  I love the ordinary, everyday things.  The smiles, the hugs, the giggles, the cries, the bathtimes, the commutes.  I love appreciating the everyday stuff because these ordinary moments are what we look back on.  We realise on reflection that these ordinary fleeting moments are what makes life so awesome.

So go enjoy them.  Love the ordinary.  Appreciate the everyday.
